Favorable Skies

My new adventure began in the sky. Twelve thousand feet below us was the ambiguous blue of the Caribbean Sea. The afternoon sun made the very tops of towering plumes of the cumulus clouds glow pink while above them the cirrus clouds were set like flowing saffron and chiffon veils. Even higher was poised a new moon quietly watching the ocean islands. As the sun set the western horizon glowed like melted rubies while far away, to the south, small lightning bursts punctuated the growing darkness.

Not every adventure of mine has started with such beauty. I certainly appreciate it.
